A fascinating and entertaining collection of super-short stories that traverse the intersection of prose and poetry, rendered in beautiful, evocative language; the stories are masterfully crafted for their brevity and creative appeal.
The author’s voice is distinct, now offering philosophical imponderables, now posing haunting questions and delivering humorous vignettes. This collection is worth acquiring and I for one will treasure it as a reminder of who we were and who we have become.

I could not put it down. When I raised my head, I had just three stories left.

How does she do it? It’s not easy to capture your thoughts and feelings in just 100 words. But Royale-Davis does precisely that. Her stories are intriguing, humorous, nostalgic, mystifying, heart-warming; at times leaving you hanging in anticipation.

I had no idea that such fulsome stories could be told in 100 words or less, so vibrantly, eloquently and vividly.

There are various versions of the phrase, ‘I was too busy or lazy to make it shorter,’ in reference to speeches and letters written by great men, including Sir. Winston Churchill. Edmund Bohen said of his work, I needed art to make it shorter.
The general idea being that it requires far more skill and time, indeed art, to condense many words into short sentence; whilst conveying meaning, context and interest in the subject. Combine this, with the selection of topics from Jamaica’s rich and vibrant culture and you will find yourself at thn table of One Hundred Stories. Dive in and enjoy.
